sharing my truth changed my life
if you're a creator, read this
I’ve been in the online business game for almost 2 years and today I want to share something important that applies to everybody who wants to have an impact in this world.
Especially if you’re a creator of any sort, you should definitely read this one...
I will talk quite a lot about writing in this letter but if you read closely it applies to any profession you are in. So let’s dive in:
January 2024 I started writing on social media with zero followers and now I have 40,000+ followers across platforms, run a successful email newsletter, and make a living doing what I love: Writing.
Beyond that, I’m part of a beautiful community where we help people (currently 31 members) write content that actually gets read, build a brand that connects with people, and run a sustainable online business that replaces your 9-5 income.
(As a side note: if you’re interested in joining the community, you can put yourself in the waitlist here and we get back to you: https://www.skool.com/fullcircle/about)
I run workshops, give seminars, and guide clients on creating content that resonates. The common question I hear?
“How can I write content that people will read?”
Well I could tell you now about all the writing rules… But the philosophy of writing goes beyond techniques like cutting your word count by 20%, avoiding certain words, or using active voice.
Those are great tips, but they’re only secondary. The real secret to being a successful creator:
Share your truth.
It’s the best writing (life) advice I can give you.
And I’m not only talking about writing. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a musician, photographer, painter, psychologist, or scientist.
To have an impact in this world, to change people’s lives, to be creative, to become the person you want to be, you have to share what you truly believe in.
Develop your own thinking. Develop your own unique way of looking at the world. Develop your autonomy. (we will go into how to do that in a sec)
But why does it matter that much?
It matters because when you share your truth, everything changes:
you establish high inner peace
your relationships become more genuine
you relate to people who had nobody to go to
you inspire others with new ways of seeing the world
you create adventures, opportunities, and collaborations you didn’t know were possible
And for creators - this is how you build a personal brand. This is how you build a brand that actually helps people.
Sharing your truth heals. It makes you your own person. It makes you break free from the conditioning of society, parents, and teachers. It makes you develop your own thinking - it will open up doors you didn’t even know were there.
Dare to share your truth and people will connect with you.
Dare to speak what other people don’t and you will have an impact on this world.
Dare to share your most personal - because the most personal is often the most universal.
The deeper your expression the more people will resonate with your message.
Because here’s the thing:
Great writing (or any creative work) isn’t about techniques. It’s about self-awareness.
The more you understand yourself, the deeper you connect with your audience.
From that lens, good writing has actually nothing to do with writing.
It has everything to do with:
How much are you able to think for yourself? How much do you know yourself?
Writing is about asking yourself: “Who am I”.
Ask yourself who you are and express your world even when it’s uncomfortable or unpopular.
I would even go so far and say, express your world especially when it’s uncomfortable or unpopular.
If you want to be a force in this world you need to find your own voice. And you do that by expressing what your eyes see, what your ears hear, what your heart feels, and what your mind thinks.
Many people won’t do that though, cause if you’re honest, not everyone will like what you write.
But that’s okay. In fact, it’s necessary. As the saying goes: “Those who never offend cannot be honest.”
Honesty is an act of courage. It means to take risks. It’s not safe, but it’s what sets you apart.
Too many people create generic content (aka having generic speech) because they’re afraid of rejection. They censor themselves to fit in.
But when you embrace your truth, you stop being generic. You become a unique powerful voice in this world that has the potential to change people’s life for the better.
Honest writing:
Introduces new ideas.
Educates and inspires.
Changes perspectives.
Challenges popular ideas.
Invites dialogue and debate.
Makes the reader feel understood.
That’s how you build influence. Become your own person and people will listen to what you have to say.
But there’s one big problem:
People don’t know how to share their truth. Or they think they do but they are actually not doing it.
Most people just copy others. And it makes sense - that’s what we learn in school and university. It’s all about references, citations, and memorizing what already has been studied.
In academia, we don’t learn how to think. We learn how to repeat. Most people leave university with never ever having had a thought of themselves. Think about that for a second.
To share your truth, you need to learn how to think for yourself. And that essentially means to get to know yourself. How?
Self awareness.
Often talked about, seldom implemented.
Self-awareness requires introspection and a willingness to seek discomfort. Here are some ways to build self-awareness to finally become your own person:
Read books and articles that people usually wouldn’t read
Meditate to learn about silence, because in silence we see truth
Journal about your inner states, emotions, thoughts, and experiences
Travel alone to discover your loneliness, ability to adapt, and capacity for self-reliance
Talk to people with different perspectives and unique ways of looking at the world
Challenge yourself physically: I once ran a marathon in 5 hours and during that time I learned months worth of lessons about myself.
The key to self-awareness (becoming your own person):
Face your fears.
Listen to new ideas.
Make time for silence.
Become an observer of yourself.
Expose yourself to new experiences.
Try activities that make you uncomfortable.
Talk to as many different people as possible.
Look at the things you don’t want to look at.
Travel to places that challenge your perspective.
Question your beliefs and reflect on their origins.
Consume content people wouldn’t usually consume.
Live an interesting life. That’s how you build influence.
Influence = Personal brand.
Personal branding is about becoming your own person. When you think for yourself and share your truth, people will connect with you. That’s how you gain followers, build an audience, and create opportunities everywhere.
It’s so beautiful to see:
Everything—from influence to subscribers to clients—starts and ends with honesty. And honesty requires self-exploration. Because before you explore who you are you can’t actually be honest.
As a creator, your job is to bring something new into the world. Creation isn’t about rehashing the same ideas—it’s about expressing something uniquely yours. That’s what makes your work stand out from others.
So ask yourself:
Who am I?
What do I truly believe in?
What do I want to share with the world?
Your beliefs might change over time, and that’s okay. What matters is that you stay honest and keep sharing.
Because at the end of the day, the real game of creation isn’t about writing. It’s about self-awareness, honesty, and the courage to share your truth with the world.
That’s it.
I’m deeply curious, what do you think about today’s letter? Would love to hear your thoughts. Did any questions come up? Reply to this e-mail and let’s discuss.
With love,
Heythem
