How I'm making money by writing online

If I started over I'd follow this 9-step blueprint

I’ve been creating on social media for 15 months now (crazy how fast time passes…)

And I went from making zero money at the beginning of 2024 to now traveling the world with money I’m making from my online business is a dream come true. (still can’t believe it sometimes). And the best thing?

I’m actually enjoying it. When I wake up in the morning, there’s nothing I’d rather do than work on my business (on most days 🙂)

I spent my days writing about Psychology & the art of writing, having calls with my clients, teaching inside our writers community Full Circle ⭕, and writing to you guys in my newsletter. And I love it.

Quick Reminder - 7-Day FREE Trials in Full Circle are open.

The level of freedom I have as a Full-Time Writer is incredible.

Of course, it’s stressful at times - the uncertainty, loneliness, and responsibility can get to you, but when these feelings come up, I remember:

I can be wherever I want, and I work on my business. Writing about topics I’m truly passionate about. Nobody is telling me what to do. I should feel grateful every day for this (I’m trying my best).

And I truly believe that it’s possible for everybody. But the problem is that many start businesses based on what would make them money quickly. Not based on their interest. And that’s not sustainable.

You’re in business for life, so whatever you do, you make sure to actually enjoy it. Otherwise don’t even start.

Because if not, you will end up hating what you do - and who wants to work on something for 30-50 years without even liking it?

So the alternative:

Explore your unique interests, create content around your passions, and find a way to monetize.

And today I want to propose to you what I would do if I started over:

1. Find your uniqueness

You want to build a business around your interests. Meaning you should create content about your interests and expertise. To do that, you need to explore:

  • The books you buy or want to buy

  • Your browser or YouTube watch history

  • The interest you've been wanting to pursue

Journal on this for 10 minutes and you know what to create.

2. Consume Good Content

It's simple:

The higher-quality content you consume, the higher the quality is your writing.

Now, this doesn't mean to copy others' content. It should inspire you.

A writer doesn't create something out of nowhere - they consume, reframe, and build upon what they consume.

Meaning:

Viral content is not luck - it’s research.

I save all the viral posts/hooks I come across.

I created a “Viral Topic Library” inside my Magnetic Writing Course in case you wanna have a look. 🙂

Once you know what topics to write about and how to phrase your hooks, your writing is almost impossible to flop.

3. Educate!

Every post you write should TEACH your audience.

Most people write philosophical quotes, boring anecdotes, and fluff content. I don't - Instead, I focus on:

  • showing my expertise (degree in Psychology, Writing Mentor, audience growth)

  • personal transformations (weight loss, from lost to purposeful)

  • provide value for my audience (writing, growth, branding tips)

4. Show Credibility

I often start my posts by showing my credibility.

  • Do you have a degree?

  • Gained X followers in X days?

  • Any relevant working experience?

I studied Psychology and I gained 40,000+ Followers on Threads. Of course, I'm going to leverage that.

5. Speak Your Truth

Most online writing is generic, boring, and replaceable (especially those who are not editing their AI output)

So stand out by voicing your deepest truth. Voice the things nobody dares to speak about to make your writing immortal.

You might encounter hate but you will also gain a true loyal following and trust within your audience.

2 quotes hold true here:

“If you’re liked by everybody, you’re liked by nobody”

"He who dares not to offend cannot be honest”

6. Optimize your Writing

The reality is: Most writers on Threads suck.

So how to stand out? Up your writing game and you jump right to the top.

For starters:

  • Don’t use adverbs

  • Write for a 5th-grade audience

  • Don’t use “thing” as a descriptive word

  • Use active voice and avoid passive voice

  • Cut your writing by 20% in your final edit

  • Use bullet points and lists to create structure

  • Don’t use a complex word when a simple one will do

  • Limit words that end with “-ing” and stay in the present

  • Limit using “really, that, very, there” (unnecessary filler words)

  • Use the words “you” and “your” to make your writing more personal.

7. Be social

I make it a point to have a video call with a new creator EVERY week

If you want engaged Followers who read your content consistently, then you need to build connections.

Collaborate, connect, and grow with fellow creators - don’t try to do this “Online Creator game” on your own - connecting with others will propel your growth massively. And the more you try to help them rather than get something from them, the more you grow.

8. Follow the 8-Step System to monetize your writing

Now here’s where it gets interesting. So far we talked about follower growth tactics - now let’s talk about how I actually make income from Threads.

And it’s actually pretty simple: Social media platforms give you attention. To convert your readers into buyers, you need the following:

  1. Create an Offer (Life Coach, Business Mentor, Threads Growth Coach, Ghostwriting, Webdesign, Copy,...)

  2. Educate about Your Offer: (e.g. Writing Mentor educates about how to write)

  3. Give value for FREE (give FREE guide, templates, e-book, or webinars)

  4. Include a Call To Action in your posts (DM me, subscribe, follow, book a call,...)

  5. Outreach to prospects and be active in the DM's (DM people who you think would be a great fit for the program and have a casual chat with them)

  6. Ask them to hop on a call with you

  7. If they are interested show them your full offer

  8. Convert to paying customers.

Follow these 8 steps and getting your first paying client is inevitable.

9. Flex your results

Whenever you achieve results for yourself or your client, post them!

Explain:

  • The problem you or your client was facing

  • The results you achieved

  • How you did it

Do this, and people will start reaching out to you for more work.

That’s it! And please if you have any questions left on how to build an audience online, monetization or our writers community Full Circle, reply to this e-mail and I get back to you (I read every mail personally)

With love,

Heythem
